Scholar Spotlights

Ana Villicana

A lack of financial literacy or advice in my household growing up lead to periods of anxiety and loss; through a major in Finance, I hope to prevent any avoidable financial struggles.
I want to become a financial advisor or a financial aid officer in the Rio Grande Valley to promote financial literacy and aid in the financial stability of those in my home town.
I am striving to start a financial business of my own or form a partnered program in a school district to make financial resources readily accessible for students and even parents.
When I am not studying I read, volunteer at community events that come up, and I recently started donating to organizations like the Texas THON for children with medical needs.
I am in the Hispanic Business Student Association at The University of Texas at Austin. HBSA allows me to be a part of a collaborative community with plenty of opportunities that both enrich my social life and my professional status. I am also in the UT for Me Scholars. This organization helped me navigate my surroundings at UT Austin through resources that quelled the worries of having a laptop, enough money for books, and even guidance on completing the FAFSA. Finally. I am a part of the Terry Foundation. Terry gives me the opportunity to give back through helpful community service events such as making blankets for the homeless, raising money for Afghan refugees, and a future plan to fill backpacks for foster children in Austin.

Make your passions known. Of course organize your resume and have a solid background, but displaying
your character and desires for a better future or even a better you, noticeably distinguishes you from the rest. Find what drives you, and translate those ideas into paper and be able to communicate them effectively.
